Field note

Runs on D batteries you can buy at any gas station. No lithium pack to cook off in a hot truck.

Why it made the cut

Plain D batteries, no lithium pack

Spares are at every gas station, and there's no built-in battery to cook in a hot truck.

Three light colors with dimming

Warm white for camp, cool for reading, bright for packing up. Long-press to dim.

Red light and SOS on top

Red keeps your night vision. The SOS flasher is there if the trip goes sideways.

Field tips

  1. Hang it from the tent's ceiling loop with the folding handle. Light from above throws fewer shadows.
  2. Use warm or red light around the fire; white light ruins everyone's night eyes.
  3. Pull the batteries before long storage so they can't leak.
